OWNERS COMMENTS

We have been the lucky owners of this beautiful home for the past 6 years, and can honestly say that we've loved every moment. When we purchased the property back in 2005, it captivated us by its sense of permanence and stability. Having been re-located from Charters Towers in the very early 1900's, it has stood the trials of world wars, cyclones and floods. The quintessential Townsville Queenslander, it's location to the old cemetery in the oldest suburb in town just 'fit'. So close to the Mall and the Strand, but tucked away in its own little corner - a perfect little spot. It provides everything that the tropical lifestyle affords - it is really all here - your very own private resort.

When we saw the house for the first time, it was from the then back fence (which was just a string of chicken wire tied to star pickets). The Mango tree was then very large and overgrown, and butterflies floated through the back yard amongst the canopy of trees. We could just imagine our children playing here, and us sitting up on the yet-to-be-constructed deck watching them. And so we did it. First we put the pool in, had many overgrown trees removed and excavated the yard. Then it was fenced. Electricity and irrigation were put in underground out to the back corners of the yard, then we put in the retaining walls and the paths were laid. We then started to plant the garden beds using some of the existing trees as the framework - including the old majestic, and sensibly pruned, Mango. We've just watched the garden flourish, and the pool like an inviting lagoon nestled in under the shade of the big old tree. And the butterflies are still our constant companions.

Two years ago we decided to build onto the existing small deck out the back and construct the fabulous deck that exists today - complete with cedar bi-folds that quite literally bring the outside in, and the inside out. We spend all of our family time out there - it's magic. The small deck linking two of the bedrooms was constructed at the same time, and we commissioned Ross joinery to make the Queensland Maple doors and windows to link the old and new. Last year it was the kitchen's turn - and it took the entire year to design and build. I love the column of stone on the side - an extravagant 'essential' that makes a perfect kitchen even more so. All the best of appliances - the secretive Miele dishwasher is so quiet, you honestly don't hear it at all. The in-bench stainless steel bin to just scrape your veggie peels into, the Le Mans articulating corner pantry to make use of every inch of space, the self-closing doors and drawers that take the fun out of temper tantrums - the list goes on. One of my favourite features of the kitchen is the view from the windows. First thing every morning we open up the windows wide and drink it in - the view of Castle Hill, the smell of the sweet morning breeze and the sound of the many little birds in the 'pom pom tree' enjoying their breakfast of nectar. What a lifestyle house this really is...

There are so many things to love about this house. It is so sad to have to leave it and go. We can honestly commend it to you, and we know that you will love and enjoy it, as we have, for many years to come.
