Nix St History.
Originally knows as Cowlet St, it was renamed in 1919 after Captain John Edward Nix, a former journalist with the Townsville Evening Star and a company commander in the 25th Battalion, Australian 2nd Division at Pozieres in 1916. Captain Nix was killed in action on 5th November 1916.

West End is an old suburb of Townsville, Queensland, situated at the base of Castle Hill. The first community cemetery is located in West End. A reflection of attitudes existing during the time it was in use, research has established that it was ethnically segregated. It has been reported that there are separate areas where, at least, Chinese and Aboriginal deceased were interred.
